Managing High Blood Pressure

Simple daily habits that make a real difference to your blood pressure – from salt to sleep.

High blood pressure often has no symptoms, but it silently raises your risk of stroke, heart disease and kidney problems. The good news: small, consistent changes really do move the numbers.

Start with salt. Most of us eat far more than we realize – season with herbs, spices and citrus instead. Aim for 30 minutes of movement most days: brisk walking counts. Sleep 7–8 hours; poor sleep pushes BP up.

If you're on medication, take it exactly as prescribed even on days you feel fine – and check your BP regularly. Walk into Palacecare any time for a free check and a friendly chat about your numbers.

Diabetes Care Tips

Practical ways to keep blood sugar steady – with food, movement and self-monitoring.

Diabetes is a marathon, not a sprint. The goal is steady blood sugar – not perfection – and it starts with what's on your plate.

Build meals around vegetables and lean protein, and be intentional with rice, bread and starchy roots. Space carbs across the day rather than piling them into one meal. Movement after eating – even a 10-minute walk – helps enormously.

Test your blood sugar as your doctor recommends and keep a simple log. Bring it to your next pharmacy visit and we'll help you spot patterns and adjust.

Proper Medication Use

Get the full benefit of your medicines and avoid the most common mistakes.

Medications only work if you take them correctly. Read the label, take at the same time each day, and never share prescriptions with family or friends – even for the same symptoms.

Store medicines in a cool, dry place – not the bathroom, which gets humid. Keep them out of reach of children. Check expiry dates and return old medicines to the pharmacy for safe disposal.

Not sure if a supplement or herbal remedy is safe with your prescription? Ask us. It's a five-minute conversation that could prevent a serious interaction.

Building a Healthy Lifestyle

Sustainable habits that support long-term health – no crash diets, no extremes.

The healthiest habits are the ones you can keep. Instead of overhauling your life overnight, pick one small change and stick with it for a month.

Drink more water. Move your body in ways you enjoy. Prioritize sleep. Eat mostly whole foods but leave room for the meals you love – guilt isn't a health strategy.

And stay connected with your community and your pharmacist. Health is easier when you're not doing it alone.
